Antireflux Procedures in Austin, TX: Traditional Nissen Fundoplication And LINX

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) occurs when the muscle responsible for separating the stomach and esophagus is too weak to shut properly. This causes stomach acid to reach the esophagus, resulting in uncomfortable and even painful symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, and belching. These are often caused by hiatal hernias.

Nissen Fundoplication is a laparoscopic procedure where the upper part of the stomach (gastric fundus) is wrapped around the lower end of the esophagus to eliminate gastroesophageal reflux.

LINX is an even less-invasive, removable alternative to Nissen Fundoplication. It consists of wrapping a small band of magnetized titanium beads around the lower esophagus to prevent stomach acids from reaching the esophagus.
