Lap-Band Surgery for Weight-Loss

Lap Band Austin, TX This content is provided to readers as an educational resource. Dr. Fass does not perform the Lap-Band procedure for a variety of reasons.  Please contact Dr. Fass for more information on his recommended weight-loss procedures.

The Lap-Band is a silicone device that is placed around the upper portion of the stomach. Simply put, the Lap-Band procedure tightens around the stomach to help patients eat less.

On average, Lap-Band patients lose 50-70% of their excess weight; however, there are several complications that may arise with this procedure.

Patients may experience reflux, dilation of the esophagus, slippage or erosion of the band.  As a result of these complications, corrective surgery may be required.

Hospital stays for the Lap-Band procedure are usually minimal as they are either done outpatient or on a one night stay. Patients can usually return to work 1-2 weeks after the procedure.
